Lord North left it late to snatch the Prince of Wales’s Stakes in the highlight of second day of racing at Royal Ascot.
It’s the hotly-anticipated Gold Cup day at Ascot today, with Stradivarius looking to make history by sealing a hat-trick of wins in this prestigious renewal. Can anyone stop him?
Here are our racing tips for Day 3 of Royal Ascot…
Royal Ascot Racing Tips – Day 3
13:50 – Wolferton Stakes – Sir Dragonet – 13/5
Don’t discount this big player finding his best form in the day’s second race, with Derby and St Leger experience to draw on and Ryan Moore booked.
14:25 – Jersey Stakes – Celestin – 6/1
Deserves plenty of respect after a flying fourth at Deauville in the French 2000 Guineas; if he can replicate that form here he’s certainly in with an each-way chance.
15:00 – Chesham Stakes – First Prophet – 7/1
Potentially a wise choice after putting a marker down with a winning start at Newbury last week. No reason to suggest further improvement isn’t possible today.
15:35 – Ascot Gold Cup – Technician – 14/5
The expected rain at Ascot could well tip the balance in Technician’s favour in the day’s feature race after some landmark wins for the four-year-old on the soft. That could all depend on whether odds-on favourite Stradivarius isn’t quite in tune as he steps back up to this distance.
16:10 – Britannia Stakes – Starcat – 14/1
Showed plenty of promise with a solid seventh in the 2000 Guineas earlier this month but looks a far more serious player in this company and also notched a win over this distance at Kempton back in December.
16:40 – Sandringham Stakes – Declared Interest – 9/1
Seems a strong contender to take the last after an eye-catching campaign as a two-year-old. Her recent win at Chelmsford suggests genuine claims on her Royal Ascot debut.
Odds correct at time of writing but may be subject to change.
