The Queen, top hats and fascinators might all be missing this year, but five days of fantastic racing remain intact as Royal Ascot begins behind closed doors today.
The Queen Anne Stakes and King’s Stand Stakes are the standouts from a seven-race card on Tuesday…
Royal Ascot Racing Tips – Day 1
13:15 – Buckingham Palace Handicap – Mutamaasik – 8/1
Could make the early running in the day’s opener after going unbeaten in his last four starts.
13:50 – Queen Anne Stakes – Terebellum – 16/5
Shone for Frankie Dettori in the Godolphin blue at Newmarket in the Dahlia 10 daya ago; no reason to suggest a repeat here isn’t on the cards.
14:25 – Ribblesdale Stakes – Passion – 9/2
The sister of St Leger winner Capri could get Aidan O’Brien’s heart beating a little faster on Day 1 after a handy run at Navan last time out.
15:00 – King Edward VII Stakes – Papa Power – 10/1
Could inject some interest in this race if favourite Mogul misfires; worth an each-way look as he steps up in class after an unbeaten start to the year.
15:35 – King’s Stand Stakes – Glass Slippers – 5/1
Could dash a fairytale ending for the heavily-hyped Baatash in this one if she can repeat the form that saw her take the Prix de l’Abbaye.
16:10 – Duke of Cambridge Stakes – Nazeef – 3/1
Looked slick on her comeback run at Kempton earlier this month and seems ready for a tilt at Royal Ascot after three wins from four last year.
16:40 – Ascot Stakes – Verdana Blue – 9/2
Posted an impressive fourth at Ascot in the Sagaro Stakes last year. The booking of Ryan Moore suggests Nicky Henderson has faith in further improvement today.
