Wondering how to get started before you take to the table for the first time?

Here are our top tips on what to expect when you play Live Baccarat….

How to Play Live Baccarat

The object of the game is to predict which of the hands (Player or Banker) will be closest to 9, or for the totals to be tied.

For counting the value of the cards, all tens and ‘face’ cards count as zero. An ace will count as one and the cards from 2 to 9 are worth their face value. If the value of cards dealt in a hand is over 9, then the tens digit is dropped. Thus, the highest hand value possible in Baccarat is 9.

For example:

A player is dealt an 8 and a 5, their final hand is worth 3 as (8+5)-10 equals 3.

A player is dealt a 9 and a king. The face card counts as zero, so the players hand is worth 9.

The individual card suits are not relevant for Baccarat, only the card value is considered.

Betting Options

Before the cards are dealt you place a bet on one of the three betting options predicting who will have the hand closest to the value of 9. You can bet on the ‘Player’, the ‘Dealer’, or a ‘Tie’ where both hands have the same value.

If the result is a Tie, that is paid as the winning selection and all stakes on the player or dealer are returned (known as a ‘push’)

Initially two cards are dealt to each of the player and banker. The game is played with eight standard decks of cards. Depending on the cards dealt, there are various scenarios under which a third card will be dealt to the player and potentially the banker. However, the rules regarding third cards are clearly defined and will follow the set game rules, it is not a matter of player choice.

Third Card Rules

The player always goes first, and the banker’s hand will depend on what happens to the player’s hand.

Side Bets

You can also place a side bet on the first two cards dealt to either the Player or Banker being a pair. If successful, this bet pays at the ratio of 11:1.

Winning Bets

Payouts on the various different bets are as follows:

Other Baccarat Variations

Lightning Baccarat

In each game round in Lightning Baccarat one to five ‘Lightning cards’ are generated, with values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x.

If a player wins on a hand which has one matching Lightning Card, the winnings are multiplied accordingly depending on the multiplier for that card.

Additionally, if a player wins but has more than one matching Lightning Card in their hand then the card multipliers combine. For example, in a winning hand with matching 2x and 4x Lightning Cards, the winnings will be multiplied by 8. A third matching Lightning Card of 8x would give winnings multiplied by 64 in this example.

The same principle for multipliers works for winning bets on the Tie.

As the potential for high multiplied winnings apply to this game, a Lightning Fee of 20% is applied to your stake. For example, if you place a bet of £5 an additional £1 (20% of £5) will be added to your total bet amount for that round.

Dragon Tiger

A simple version of the game, with the cards being dealt from a shoe containing eight standard decks. One card is dealt to each of the ‘Dragon’ and ‘Tiger’. The player bets on which one will have the higher card. An ace is counted as one, thus the king is the highest value card. A winning bet on either Dragon or Tiger pays 1:1.

There are two tie options; a regular tie with two cards of the same value (pays 11:1) and a suited tie with two cards of the same value and suit (pays 50:1).

If you bet on either Dragon or Tiger and the result is a tie, half of your main bet will be returned.

Salon Privé

On these tables you play alone and at your own pace. The table is all yours, no one else can play or even watch.

These tables do have high minimum stakes though so will not be suitable for many players.
