The curtain officially comes down on seven fantastic months of flat racing this Saturday as British Champions Day signs off the season in style at Ascot.
The race to be named Champion Jockey between Oisin Murphy and William Buick is the biggest plotline brewing in Berkshire, but it’s also one final chance to see some of this season’s biggest stars on the turf in a clutch of top-quality Group 1 races.
Stradivarius, Trueshan, Snowfall, Baaeed, Palace Pier, Mishriff and Adayar are among the big hitters expected to make their seasonal swansong in the flat season’s big finale.

Racing Tips – 16th October – ITV Racing
Here are our racing tips for all the ITV races….
🏇 13:25 – TRUESHAN – 6/4
May well have too much for arch-rival Stradivarius given conditions are trending in his favour for this Long Distance Cup battle.
The comfortable manner of his victory in the pair’s last duel at Longchamp suggests Alan King’s five-year-old could take all the stopping in the ITV opener, leaving Stradivarius to play second fiddle once again.
🏇 14:00 – CREATIVE FORCE – 13/2
Unleashing this three-year-old’s creative spark could be key to William Buick’s chances of closing the gap on Oisin Murphy on the final day, and the son of Dubawi has form here after a 7f win on the soft in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes earlier this summer.
A middling run at Haydock last time out is a concern but the bounceback could come in a Sprint Stakes contest that looks wide open.
🏇 14:35 – SNOWFALL – 5/6
Has every chance of seeing her Arc disappointment melt away in this company as she bids to reclaim the form that saw her scoop an English/Irish Oaks double earlier this summer.
She also comfortably bested several of her most likely rivals in today’s contest when easing home by 4L in the Yorkshire Oaks back in August.
🏇 15:10 – BAAEED – 9/4
Breath-taking form could power him to victory over the formidable Palace Pier in one of the most anticipated Group 1 battles of British Champions Day.
The three-year-old franked his resounding Group 3 win at Glorious Goodwood with a perfectly timed victory in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, and a repeat of that form could see Palace Pier go home empty-handed yet again in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, his sole career disappointment to date.
🏇 15:50 – ADAYAR – 2/1
May be primed to turn tables on main rival Mishriff in the wake of their recent York 1-2 in what looks set to be a nip-and-tuck Champion Stakes. Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old was the superior performer at this venue in their summer duel in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes.
While he weakened late on in challenging conditions when fourth in the Arc, he otherwise has the proven form on soft ground to suggest a third Group 1 success of the season could be within his grasp in Berkshire.
🏇 16:30 – SIR BUSKER – 20/1 EW
Finally, in a day dominated by the big guns, could the value come in the ITV finale?
Oisin Murphy could save the best until last in the Balmoral Handicap on board this Ascot specialist if the five-year-old can catch fire at a venue where he’s often posted some big runs.
That track record includes a fine win under Murphy in the Silver Royal Hunt Cup Handicap in June 2020 and an eye-catching third with the Irishman behind Palace Pier and Lope Y Fernandez earlier this season in the Queen Anne Stakes.
