Glorious Goodwood Preview – Top Tips for the Qatar Goodwood Festival 2019

WEDNESDAY

MOLECOMB STAKES, 15:00

The Group 3, 5f flat race looks like one of the most open contests of Day 2. Liberty Beach (6/4) will be looking to put another marker down after her showstopping performance at Sandown at the start of this month.

The fast-paced filly could face stiff competition from Maven (10/3), with Frankie Dettori’s ride fresh after missing out on the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. A classy run under pressure at Chantilly in June suggests he’s a strong chance if he can recapture that form.

Show Me Show Me (22/1) could offer the value in the field after a surprise second-place finish at the Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury earlier this month.

SUSSEX STAKES, 15:35

In one of the most eagerly-anticipated races of the festival, Too Darn Hot (11/10) will be hoping to catch fire with a signature win in this race after an underwhelming third-place finish in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The winner that day, Circus Maximus (10/3), will be back in action for the first time since that showcase win, while 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix of Spain (5/1) will also be looking to conjure up some of that Curragh magic after failing to make any real impression at Ascot. The quicker ground at Goodwood could see him sneak through the middle to take the victory here.

Looking for a runner that might just be flying under the radar? I Can Fly (33/1) could be a lively outsider to consider after placing in four of her seven races in 2019, with three top three finishes over a mile.
