Epsom Derby Preview
Sir Dragonet, 5/2
Stormed home to win the Chester Vase with an impressive eight-length victory. Prefers soft ground which might harm his chances on what is expected to be a warm weekend at Epsom.
Trainer Aiden O’Brien fancies Broome’s chances after he swept to victory in both the Ballysax Stakes and Derrinstown Derby Trial in Ireland. Likely to be tested over this slightly longer distance.
Looks interesting after staying composed to edge out Too Darn Hot at the Dante Stakes in York. Fatigue could be a concern after only a two-week break.
Anthony Van Dyck, 7/1
One of O’Brien’s strongest chances in the race, he might sound like a Premier League footballer but he has real thoroughbred pedigree after a strong run in the Lingfield Derby Trial.
Trained by Andrew Balding, Bangkok looks an interesting option after recent victories at Sandown and Doncaster. A win would be a fitting tribute to late owner, former Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
