Champions League Predictions Gameweek 2
LILLE VS CHELSEA, 20:00
The lowdown: Neither of these sides got off to an ideal start in Group H as both slipped to opening day defeats. Expect both managers to set their sides up to box clever as they look to make up ground on early pace setters Ajax and Valencia. With a double-header up next for the Blues against last year’s semi-finalists Ajax, three points in northern France could prove priceless. Chelsea will need to tighten things up defensively, having shipped an average of 2.5 goals per game away from home this season.
Verdict: The Blues to be frustrated in France. 1-1
Best Bet: Under 2.0 goals at 191/100.
LIVERPOOL VS RED BULL SALZBURG, 20:00
The lowdown: A little bit of history repeated itself for the Reds last time around, as just like in 2018, they slipped to a group game defeat against Napoli. Jürgen Klopp won’t mind too much if it proves to be another brief blip on the road to Champions League glory. However, the German will be expecting a reaction after his side failed to live up to their usual high standards in Naples. Salzburg have shown they will be no pushovers after opening their account with a thumping 6-2 win over Genk. Teenage striking sensation Erling Braut Håland will be looking to add to his tally of 17 goals for the season. However, the Norwegian is an injury doubt as his side heads to Merseyside.
Verdict: The Reds to get off the mark at Anfield. 3-1
Best Bet: Sadio Mane to score the first goal at 5/2.
