Anthony Joshua v Andy Ruiz Jr 2: The Rematch – Big Fight Preview
Shockwaves reverberated around the boxing world back in June when Ruiz Jr pulled off one of the biggest upsets in sporting history.
Anthony Joshua’s air of invincibility evaporated overnight as Andy Ruiz showed no mercy last summer with a relentless punching display that left the previously undefeated champion with no answer.
Ruiz Jr managed to drop the British fighter four times before the referee ultimately intervened in the seventh round to hand the long-shot outsider a famous win.
Joshua fans will be hoping their man simply had an off-day in New York against Ruiz Jr, but no-one is underestimating the powerful counter-puncher this time around. The Mexican is 39/20 with Marathonbet to prove his win last time around was no fluke by defending his WBA, IBF and WBO titles in Riyadh.
The weigh-in has been another major talking point ahead of fight night. Anthony Joshua is 10Ibs lighter than in New York while Ruiz Jr weighs in at over 20 stone, 15Ib heavier than last time out. That suggests Joshua will be relying on speed and agility to outmanoeuvre Ruiz Jr and restrict the Mexican’s opportunities to go on the offensive.
Will that extra weight make the difference?
We’ll find out soon enough.
