Premier League Predictions and FPL tips – Gameweek 7

The Premier League returns on Saturday with a key clash in the title race being the pick of the weekend’s games.

Here’s our take on this week’s action – with our Fantasy tips and predictions…

Saturday’s games…

West Ham vs Man Utd, 12.30pm

Just when a corner looked like being turned for Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese manager suffered his worst week yet at the club, as Utd suffered a humbling League Cup exit to Derby County on penalties, and relations between Mourinho and Paul Pogba reportedly hit rock-bottom.

Man Utd

West Ham are still looking for their first win on home soil and will probably never have a better opportunity to take points from one of the league’s major players.

Safe pick: Romelu Lukaku – Man Utd – £11.1m
Value pick: Mark Noble – West Ham Utd – £4.9m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: This has become a must-not-lose game for Mourinho, and he has shown he still has the nous for pulling a result out of the bag just as the pressure looks relentless. West Ham will be high on confidence after drawing with Chelsea and annihilating lowly Macclesfield but a point would be a satisfactory return for the Hammers.

3.00pm games

Arsenal vs Watford

Watford’s momentum has stalled in recent weeks, and their current top four berth comes under further threat this weekend as they travel to an Arsenal side hitting their stride under Unai Emery.

The Hornets did snatch a 2-1 win at the Emirates in this fixture two years ago – but the Gunners now look a far harder nut to crack under their new boss.

Safe pick: Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal – £9.5m
Value pick: José Holebas – Watford – £4.9m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: A comfortable victory for Arsenal against a Watford side fading slightly after a hugely impressive start to the season.

Everton vs Fulham

With a few dissenting voices already starting to creep out at Goodison Park, Marco Silva needs a morale-boosting victory this weekend to help kick-start the Toffees’ faltering season.

Walcott

In theory, a home game against a promoted side is exactly the type of game Silva needs, but Fulham have shown this season they can be a threat even when they don’t dominate a game for 90 minutes.

Safe pick: Theo Walcott – Everton – £6.6m
Value pick: Marcus Bettinelli – Fulham – £4.4m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: Everton to get back on track and grind out a narrow win against a Fulham side that, for all their good spells, can be naïve at the back.

Huddersfield vs Spurs

The mini crisis is over for Mauricio Pochettino, with a win against Brighton ending their barren run and a potential run to the Carabao Cup Final now in play.

Their upturn in form should continue this weekend against a Terriers side severely lacking in confidence and increasingly relying on defence rather than attack to keep them in games.

Safe pick: Harry Kane – Spurs – £12.4m
Value pick: Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen – Huddersfield – £4.5m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: It could be a long afternoon for the home side if Spurs can continue to up their energy levels after a stuttering start to the season.

Man City vs Brighton

The reigning champions put their Lyon blip behind them in spectacular fashion last weekend, dispatching new boys Cardiff 5-0 in the Welsh capital.

Aguero

The Seagulls’ horrendous start to the season finally comes to a close at the Etihad. Chris Hughton’s side play their fourth ‘Big Six’ side in seven games and will aim for damage limitation with injured players starting to return and a lighter-looking schedule ahead.

Safe pick: Sergio Agüero – Man City – £11.4m
Value pick: Florin Andone – Brighton – £5.0m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: An easy day at the office for the home side against a compact but unimaginative Brighton side that rarely offers much threat on the road.

Newcastle Utd vs Leicester City

Rafa’s long-term future continues to be the major talking point on Tyneside, but his most pressing priority will be to get that first win of the season on the board.

The Toon have been better than recent results suggest, while Claude Puel’s Foxes can be thrilling and frustrating in equal measure.

Safe pick: DeAndre Yedlin – Newcastle – £4.5m
Value pick: Nampalys Mendy – Leicester City – £4.4m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: It could be tight, but the Magpies are overdue a win, and are more than capable of taking advantage of a Leicester side that can be inconsistent on the road.

Wolves vs Southampton

Worryingly for the clutch of sides expecting to battle relegation this season, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side already look a step above – and underlined their credentials with an impressive draw at Old Trafford last week.

They face a Saints side that has not capitalised on their gentle-looking fixture list to start the season. Mark Hughes needs a win from somewhere – can he be the man to curb Wolves’ upward trajectory?

Safe pick: Raúl Jiménez – Wolves – £5.5m
Value pick: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – Southampton – £4.5m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: Wolves to make it five unbeaten in the league against a Saints side that struggle to stay the distance in games.

Chelsea vs Liverpool, 5.30pm

The undoubted game of the weekend as the two title chasers meet for the second time in a week.

The home side edged this game last season in a tight 1-0 victory, but with new manager Sarri so far looking more adventurous than his predecessor in how he sets up this Chelsea side, this year’s fixture could be far more entertaining for the neutral.

Safe pick: Eden Hazard – Chelsea – £11.0m
Value pick: Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool – £5.1m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: A stalemate that leaves both managers reasonably happy – even if Man City take advantage earlier in the day by leapfrogging their title rivals.

Sunday’s game

Cardiff City v Burnley, 4.00pm

It’s not a game that screams ‘4-3 thriller’, but a fascinating tactical battle awaits on Sunday afternoon against two managers scrapping for every point at the bottom of the table.

Cardiff City (1)

Burnley will be brimming with confidence after thrashing Bournemouth 4-0 but look a far weaker proposition away from home.
Safe pick: – Junior Hoilett – Cardiff City – £5.2m
Value pick: – Matthew Lowton – Burnley – £4.8m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: It’s going to be a long season for Cardiff but a tight, scrappy game against Burnley could be just the ticket Neil Warnock needs to secure his first three points of the season.

Monday’s game

Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace, 8.00pm

The Cherries were brought back down to earth with a bump last week with a battering at Burnley, but have a good opportunity to put things right against Crystal Palace.

Roy Hodgson’s side will have been disappointed to only take one point from their home game against Newcastle, and will once again look to Wilfried Zaha to lift them on the road.

Safe pick: – Callum Wilson – Bournemouth – £6.3m
Value pick: – Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Crystal Palace – £4.3m

Fantasy Football Analyst prediction: Zaha’s presence alone can completely transform the Eagles’ fortunes but Bournemouth have looked strong at home so far this season and should have enough to keep up their unbeaten record at the Vitality.
