Premier League Darts: Can Anderson cling on in Aberdeen?
Eight must be whittled down to four as Premier League Darts heads to Aberdeen.
In truth matters look fairly settled at both ends of the table but Flying Scotsman Gary Anderson has reasons to be cautious on home soil as he goes up against Michael van Gerwen in a game that will conclude what has been an entertaining Phase 2 of the 2018 Premier League Darts.
The trophy-laden Dutchman can blow away any opposition when he’s in the right frame of mind, and a heavy defeat for Anderson tied to an emphatic win for Daryl Gurney could see Anderson making holiday plans rather than heading to the final showdown at the O2 Arena.
Premier League Darts is anything but predictable, but Gurney will surely be the happier of the two play-off chasers as he faces a player with only pride to play for in Peter Wright. Last year’s runner up has endured a frustrating 2018 but Wright will be keen to finish with a flourish in front of a partisan home crowd in the penultimate game of the evening.
The appetiser for the Aberdonian crowd is an intriguing clash between two players rapidly going in different directions in this competitions as Bully Boy takes on Barney. Michael Smith will be looking to consolidate second place – a marked improvement on only his second shot at Premier League Darts after a 10th place finish in 2016. Could he go all the way in 2018 at the O2 Arena? As Raymond van Barneveld bows out, Smith could well be leading the next generation of darts stats.
Finally, another rising star Rob Cross will be looking to keep the pressure on the top two as he takes on Simon Whitlock. The story of 2018 has been one of youth triumphing experience, and Cross will be heavily fancied to ward off the Wizard here.
