Here’s proof that having a pukka goal celebration is worth the time and effort.

Marathonbet yesterday presented Wealdstone FC with a cheque for £10,000 after the club won our Non-League Challenge (NLC).

The NLC tasked all 68 teams of the National League, National League North and National League South to come up with a celebration that got chins wagging.

And Wealdstone’s Gazza impersonation – aided by non-league hero the Wealdstone Raider – helped see off competition from the likes of Whitehawk, Chelmsford and Torquay United.

As well as a £10,000 kitty to help fund a new player or stadium improvements, Wealdstone will take a share of the proceeds from a charity match with a team of Premier League legends on July 31.

Former Charlton and Huddersfield boss Chris Powell was the latest name to be added to the Marathonbet Premier League legends team alongside stars like Arsenal’s Lauren and Charlton/Ipswich hero Matt Holland. Powell was on hand to present the cheque to Wealdstone yesterday.

Well done the Raider – and congratulations to Wealdstone on a brilliant celebration and the big haul of cash coming your way!

Club President Paul Rumens said “We’re all absolutely thrilled to have won the competition and the £10,000 cash prize.

“The club is ecstatic. We want to thank everyone who gave their support and voted.”
