Tis the season for caring and sharing, which is why Marathonbet is delighted to announce it has given Hibernian hitman Simon Murray £500 to donate to a charity of his choice this Christmas.
We gave Murray his ‘Christmas bonus’ after sitting down with him at Easter Road last week. Murray spoke of his best moment in a Hibernian shirt, where he thinks they’ll end up at the end of the season and the team morale in the Hibs dressing room.
Talking about his now infamous Simon Says goal celebration, which earns the Hibernian Community Foundation £500 from Marathonbet every time he performs it, Murray said: “It’s been good. I’m trying to master it fully but I’ve enjoyed doing it when I score. I’ve been doing it a little fast but I’ve been out of control so you can’t blame me!
“The money earned for the Hibernian Community Foundation is brilliant. It’s good to give back and Marathonbet are doing that.”
Asked about his celebration in the 1-0 over Hearts, Murray said: “How did I remember to do it? I’d been practicing in the mirror at the house and it stuck! It was a great night and a good occasion to get the celebration in. It was definitely my best moment in a Hibs shirt. One I’ll remember for a while.
“The boys are in good spirits in the dressing room and we’re looking forward to every game that comes. Long may it continue and hopefully we’ll have a good second half to the season.”
Murray announced he would give his £500 bonus to a friend’s charity that collects Christmas gifts for needy children.
He said: “It’s a toy appeal for youngsters who don’t wake up with anything at Christmas. It’s a great cause and good to give back and make people smile. Christmas is one day where everyone should be happy.”
