There are a lot of things we all don’t like about the rapid rise and commercialisation of football in the last few years – overhyped drab fixtures, overpriced match tickets, overindulged average footballers but transfer announcement videos isn’t one of them!

Many clubs have seen success in piggy-backing off current trends. Turkish side Konyaspor did just that when they managed to land a massive coup in signing double Champions League winner Eto’o, by cleverly playing on the famous intro of popular TV series Game of Thrones. 4. Stuart Taylor – Southampton

The Saints announced the contract extension of their third-string goalkeeper last summer and won Twitter in the process. In a tongue-in-cheek attempt to dig out most clubs’ Hollywood-esque announcement videos, Southampton had the world of social media in stitches as a result.

 

5. Peter Hartley – Motherwell

Another amusing dig at the rising trend and obsession in announcement videos saw Scottish club Motherwell fire a rather humorous shot Man Utd’s way. Days after the announcement of Alexis Sanchez, Motherwell replied with a parody attempt of unveiling ex-Blackpool and Plymouth defender Peter Hartley.
