They’re European heavyweights who have played in the world’s top arenas, enjoy an abundance of resources and all things good that come with professional football.
But that didn’t stop Borussia Dortmund preparing for their Europa League clash against Liverpool tonight by training at the ground of eighth-tier English outfit Marine FC.
Yep, that’s right. The Germans chose to fine-tune their skills at the ground of a Northern Premier League side in Merseyside just hours before kick-off at Anfield. Standard.

Marine chairman Paul Leary told BBC Radio Merseyside: “I was approached by their agents in Manchester funnily enough on the morning of April 1 and I actually thought it was an April Fool.
“We were assured it was a serious enquiry and we were delighted to assist them.”
Marine are 18th in their league, seven points above the relegation places. They no doubt took some tips from the German champions-elect – plus a couple of souvenirs for good measure.
Leary added: “We had to keep it absolutely confidential and I only told the remaining directors on Tuesday morning.
“Had it got out in the public domain then it would’ve been a difficult situation to manage.
“They’ve donated two Dortmund shirts and all of their players have signed the shirts which will be framed and hung in our new boardroom.”
