Darlington get ready to host the 2018 #NonLeagueChallenge
Premier League legends and international stars are heading to Darlington’s Blackwell Meadows ground this weekend as the Quakers play host to this year’s Marathonbet #NonLeagueChallenge side.
A host of famous names from the world of football including Jay-Jay Okocha, Yakubu, Chris Waddle, Kieron Dyer, Danny Mills and George Boateng will be descending on Darlington in a quest to win this year’s #NonLeagueChallenge trophy.
The Legends will also be joined by a couple of Darlo greats in the form of David Preece and Marco Gabbiadini, and a true icon of English football as Sir Geoff Hurst takes the managerial reins to plot their path to victory against a younger, fitter Darlo side.
Joining forces to cast their eye over proceedings from the gantry are two broadcasters not shy of an opinion or two in talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson.
St Teresa’s Hospice, supporting the people of South Durham and North Yorkshire through a range of holistic day, home, inpatient, complementary therapy, and family support services, will be the official charity partner for Sunday’s match.
The NLC is a pioneering concept that engages clubs, players and supporters from across the non-league pyramid – scouring the country far and wide for the year’s best goal celebration.
Ten sides from up and down the country successfully made the final shortlist for this year’s Non League Challenge, with a £20,000 cash prize up for grabs for the winning club as well as the chance to host this weekend’s Legends game.
In a highly competitive field, Reece Styche’s graceful swan dive for Darlo in the snow proved to be the most popular celebration with the voting public. The weather will be a lot different for the Quakers this weekend at Blackwell Meadows as they vie for the NLC trophy against the Legends.
Will the Legends prove the old adage that class is permanent – or will Darlington’s match sharpness tell? On Sunday, we’ll finally find out who will walk away with the 2018 #NonLeagueChallenge trophy.

Manager: Sir Geoff Hurst
