Joe Root and England have the uphill task of needing to win a Perth Test match for the first time since 1978 if they’re to avoid a series defeat in the Ashes.

Marathonbet have got all the odds and information you need ahead of the third Test match in this winter’s Ashes series.

England head to Perth on the back of defeats in the opening Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide and are looking to end a seven-match losing run in Australia. So can Joe Root’s men actually keep the series alive?

Australia are favourites at 11/20 to win, England are 10/3 to keep their slim hopes of retaining the Urn alive whilst the draw is the least favoured outcome at 9/2.

It’s not all doom and gloom for England with Root’s side showing a few positives in the first two Tests. Mark Stoneman, James Vince and Dawid Malan have all showed glimpses of class and grit with the bat to give England hope despite question marks being posed over their quality heading into the series.

If England are to prosper in the Perth these men will need to score runs, a lot of them! In the first innings, Stoneman is 9/2 to top score with the bat for England while Vince and Malan are 11/2 and 8/1. The more experienced heads Root and Cook head the market at 5/2 and 7/2.

The home team’s pace attack of Mitchell Starc (2/1 to be top Australian bowler in the first innings), Josh Hazlewood (9/4) and Pat Cummins (3/1) have so far terrified and ultimately blown away England’s lower order and will look for more of the same while Nathan Lyon (7/2) has been a menace all series to England’s left-handers.

Captain Steven Smith is 5/2 to top score with the bat in the first innings whilst chief antagonist David Warner is 3/1. England’s big two of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad are 5/2 and 11/4 to star with the ball in the first innings while all-rounder Chris Woakes is 7/2.

If England are to have any chance of upsetting history and silencing the WACA their captain Joe Root will have to have the Test of his life – he’s 10/1 with Marathonbet to be named Man of the Match.

And finally Australia are 2/57 to win back the Ashes,  whilst England are a mammoth 33/1 to retain the Urn and if you fancy a repeat of the last series on Australian soil Smith’s men are 9/4 to win 5-0.
