2000 Guineas Stakes 2019 Betting Preview
The flat season’s first Classic kicks off this weekend’s horse racing in style with the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket.
The first of Britain’s five Classics and the opening leg of the Triple Crown, this race is one of the most highly-prized on the flat racing calendar.
Legendary winners of this race include Rock of Gibraltar, Sea the Stars and Frankel.
Who will join them in the history books by taking this year’s 2000 Guineas?
2000 Guineas Preview
Magna Grecia (4/1) looks in magnificent shape towards the front of the field to take the 15:35 feature race at Newmarket. The Aidan O’Brien-trained three-year-old threw the gauntlet down for the Guineas by taking the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster last October.
If Magna misses his chance, O’Brien could turn to Ten Sovereigns (7/2) to bring his tally of 2000 Guineas wins into double figures. Unbeaten in three runs, he ran strongly around Newmarket back in September as he claimed the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes.
Frankie Dettori remains a perennial fan’s favourite, so expect plenty of late backing for Advertise (8/1). The Italian is tipping Advertise to be a breakthrough star after two from two for horse and rider last year. As one of only three horses in the field with a Group 1 win, back him to make a splash.
Finally in one of the most open 2000 Guineas fields for many years due to the absence of winter favourite Too Darn Hot, don’t discount a surprise winner emerging from the chasing back. The value could come from Kick On (16/1), a two-time winner around the Newmarket track.
